Matthew J. Durán
I study what works and doesn’t work in policing and crime prevention. My research combines experimental and quasi-experimental methods with practical experience in policing to evaluate programs, inform policy, and help agencies make decisions based on evidence rather than intuition.
Currently, I am a Ph.D. student in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Arizona State University, where I work with the Center for Violence Prevention and Community Safety. Before entering academia full time, I worked as a crime analyst, private investigator, and detention officer, experiences that continue to shape the questions I ask and the research I conduct.
